July 30-31

SATURDAY
Saturday we met with the intentions of going to "The Peak". However, the day was hazy and rainy so we decided to go shopping at Stanley Market instead. Stanley is a beach area located on Hong Kong Island. It was the largest settlement on Hong Kong Island before the British settled in the area.

Time for lunch...John, me, Kari, Sherry and Geoff.

Time for a toast...Geoff & Sherry.

Movie poster for "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

The evening found us at the Lan Kwai Fong Beer Festival. The weather was still icky but we couldn't pass up going to the Festival.

Doesn't this building look like it could be in Miami's South Beach?

The evening comes to an end...

SUNDAY
We started the day by walking over to the Gold Coast Hotel to get some info and to see the brunch set up that we had heard soooo much about. We took one look and decided brunch was where we needed to be!

Brunch bunch...me, Geoff, Kari & Sherry

Isn't it nice that the candle matched my blouse?
On our way back from brunch we stopped in one of the nearby spas where we had our ears candled. It's supposed to remove the wax from your ears. Since doing this we have learned the in's and out's about ear candling from Gary & Lesley-Kay.

We finished out the afternoon by going to the Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery.

Buddhas to the left & Buddhas to the right!

According to the book "Top 10 Hong Kong" there are over 400 steps to reach the temple.

I thought he was perhaps the creepiest of all the Buddhas.

Temple area.

More trivia from the "Top 10 Hong Kong" book, the count of 10,000 Buddhas is based on the number of Buddhas located inside the temple. And the book says there are more like 13,000 Buddha images now.

I was born in the year of the tiger. Outside the temple were posts with icons representing each of the Chinese years.
